Shawn first appears in the cemetery when Della is burying her cousin Chan Hon. He inquires about Miranda Kane after finding out she was dating Perry Gomez. When meeting with a dangerous person, a battle ensues. While Chase Tallman and Della fight off the goons with their martial arts and physical attributes, Shawn fights them off with an honorary sword. One enemy attempts to run, but Shawn quickly freezes him with a spell.
Shawn tries to persuade Miranda to step out of the high priestess competition, but she refuses despite his attempts to disqualify her and accompanies her to Paris for the finals. He meets Perry Gomez for the first time. He tells Miranda he kissed her two years ago at his sister's Halloween party.
Shawn is assigned to protect Della Tsang's family from Connor Powell's gang but is ambushed, injured, and hidden in a shed. After Della beat down the attackers and saved her family, Burnett James tortures the gangsters until they reveal where Shawn is hidden. They find Shawn in time and take him to the hospital. Miranda decides to give him a chance.
Shawn has a protagonist role. He has pursued Miranda for the last nine months since Perry went to find his parents and cut off contact with Miranda again.
He later finds himself attracted to Lily Chambers. Despite his attempt to keep his affections in place, he realizes Miranda's heart belongs to Perry. Miranda then convinces him to take a chance with Lily. Shawn and Perry come to terms with each other after this.
Physical Appearance
He is noted to be incredibly handsome and has a muscular build. Shawn has blue eyes and sandy brown hair.
Personality
Smart, witty, and protective but also takes his mother's opinion to heart at times even when he resists. Shawn has trouble talking to people and tries to avoid interrogating witnesses whenever possible during assignment unless Burnett tells him to challenge himself.
Shawn is trained in swordfighting and carries an honorary sword as a sign of bravery for warlocks.
Miranda Kane: Former love interest. Miranda was friends with Shawn's younger sister Ellen. He was also her first kiss a few years ago at a Halloween party, but he had a mask on so she didn't know who he was at the time. They didn't see each other again until a few years later when he found out she had a boyfriend. They tried to pursue a relationship during Perry's absence, but ultimately Miranda realized her true feelings and broke up with him. Perry Gomez: The two initially had a mutual dislike of each other due to their shared affection toward Miranda, but Shawn learned to accept that Miranda's heart belonged to Perry, and they came to friendly terms.
Anthony Bastin: He is acquainted with Shawn through the Evans/Kane sisters. They first met in Paris when Miranda, Tabitha, and Anthony were kidnapped by rogue vampires and rescued by the FRU.
