Brain Scanning is the basic power that all supernaturals have. It serves as a means to help the user identify other species by looking directly into their brain patterns.

Overview

With this power, they can see through someone else's forehead like an x-ray and catch a glance of their brain patterns. This power serves as a way of determining another individual's species identity. And many consider it rude (or to werewolves, threatening) to conceal their patterns.

Brain patterns are not identical between different members of the same species, but can still be easily identified as they are nonetheless very similar in form and design.

According to Miranda Kane, witches, and warlocks have scroll-like markings, while humans mainly have dull even lines. Kylie Galen once commented that Holiday Brandon has horizontal lines on the left side. Chameleons have weird symbols.

Limitations

While they can recognize the brain patterns, some people give off a blockage that makes them difficult to read.

Chameleons are known to have a closed mind until they come of age when they start manifesting their powers.

Individuals with ghost whispering powers can also give off an unintentional mental blockage that requires meditation to open up.

Mental illnesses and brain tumors can do very strange things to one's brain pattern; apparently, they can even make one's pattern appear as if they were a different species than they actually are.
