Humans are the most dominating species on Earth, though most in modern times are kept in the dark about the existence of supernaturals.

Humans generally have no special abilities of their own in comparison to supernaturals but can become quite destructive if they band together; for this reason, supernaturals in modern times have kept themselves hidden for survival. There are, however, a small number of humans who are aware of the existence of supernaturals and ensure their secrecy. Therefore, anything they know about supernaturals has become fantasy and legend, with several inaccuracies, such as vampires being undead and immortal, or werewolves losing all sense of self when in wolf form.

Victims

Humans are known to be the main food source for vampires, who need to regularly consume human blood to survive and maintain their health. They are also prone to falling victim to other supernaturals, such as werewolves or shape-shifters.

Under certain circumstances, supernatural genetics may skip a generation or two, rendering the affected fully human, but capable of producing supernatural children.

Virus Carriers

A few family bloodlines inherit a very rare virus of vampirism. It is normally so rare that it only presents itself in one of fifty family members. If that human is lucky, they may live out a human life. To activate the virus, the carrier must come into direct contact with an active vampire for the transformation to take place. It is most effective when the carrier has open wounds. The transformation is slow and lasts approximately two days, during which the carrier will feel incredibly ill, and won't be able to consume any kind of human nutrition. Once the transformation is complete, the carrier will become a full-fledged vampire but will suffer from memory lapses and loss of control in their thirst for blood.

Vampire Bite

Few humans can be turned into vampires through a direct bite from a vampire, but such a transformation is rare. Holiday suspects the selected humans are special in some ways.

Werewolf Bite

Like with vampires, a werewolf bite can turn a human into a werewolf, but the probability of a human turning in such a condition is rare and highly unlikely.

Native Americans

Certain members of Native American tribes are known to possess special gifts that pass on to their descendants. These gifts vary from empathy to ghost whispering. They may also find themselves drawn to supernaturals in a manner similar to physical attraction.

These tribal descendants' gifts can qualify the birth of a protector.
