Steve came from a wealthy family of shape-shifters, who have become fully inverted with their lives in the human world. They lived in Alabama before they moved to Dallas. While his parents want him to become a doctor for humans to earn a place in high society, Steve wants to become a doctor to help supernaturals in need. His parents are not happy with the idea.
Steve attended a prep school at one point, but he never fitted in and saw Shadow Falls Academy as his opportunity to get away from home.
Steve is assigned by Burnett to go on a mission with Della, much to her dismay. Kylie accidentally walks into the boys' bathroom where she catches Steve and Perry taking a leak together.
They bond during their time away from Shadow Falls; Steve comes to her rescue when her ex-boyfriend spots her at a local Chinese restaurant. He comes to her rescue again when they confront the vampire bureau that Burnett sent them to, and again when they run into a pack of werewolves after escaping the vampires. During the mission, Della gets stabbed and Steve takes time to care for her. They have a short moment of romantic bliss before Della pushes him away. He becomes determined to keep pursuing her.
When they return to Shadow Falls, Della avoids him completely. Steve turns to Kylie for advice and decides to fight for Della's affection, much to her dismay. He pays a pint of blood to spend an hour with her during Meet Your Campmate Hour; when she refuses to go, he puts her over his shoulder and carries her away, much to everyone's shock.
Steve and Della's relationship tears and rebinds as he still tries to break Della's barriers. He feels especially threatened when a new vampire named Chase Tallman catches her attention. Despite his best efforts to dismiss their attraction, Steve feels himself losing her to Chase.
Due to her close bond with Chase Tallman, Steve decides that Della wants Chase and that he doesn't want to be second best, and leaves Shadow Falls for a school for shape-shifters in Paris with little chance of returning.
Steve is mentioned by Kylie, Miranda and Della while they are in Paris. Della hasn't thought to see him, focused solely on finding Chase, who is said to have gone to Paris to look for leads relating to her uncle.
Steve and Perry return from France. Della continuously avoids him, but he insists they need to talk. When Chase is gravely injured, Della turns to Steve for help because of his medical experience. He later asks Chase for a sample of the vampire ointment to study it.
When Della goes through files on her dad's case, Steve volunteers to help. They later meet at a café in preparation to sneak into the hospital where Steve's mom volunteers occasionally to steal files on Bao Yu Tsang, Della's late aunt. He admits to Della that even though he still has feelings for her, he has come to accept that her heart belongs to Chase and that he has sort of chosen his career over her. He plans to attend the International Training Academy after graduation.
Della gets caught by a security guard, and Steve is forced to fly to Chase for help.
Physical Appearance
Steve is tall, broad-shouldered, muscular, and speaks with a Southern accent. He has sandy-brown hair and the multicolored eyes that shape-shifters usually have. In Whispers at Moonrise, Miranda states that he resembles Zac Efron. He is physically apt to hold his own in a fist fight.
It has also been stated numerous times that Steve has a cute butt.
Personality
Steve is a kind and considerate person who strives to leave an imprint on the Supernatural world. He is usually very determined to get what he wants and will sometimes find other ways to get it. Steve is stated to be a very smart individual with an interest in medicine and tending to wounds.
He was raised to be proper and doesn't like to throw garbage randomly like many others.
Powers and Abilities
As a shape-shifter, Steve possesses the following abilities:
Della Tsang: Della is a vampire that Steve has had an interest in ever since Taken at Dusk. The two flirt constantly and Steve wants more but Della, who is still hurt over Lee, is apprehensive about dating anyone. In Saved at Sunrise, they are sent on a mission together and they grow closer. When Della gets stabbed in a gang fight, Steve checks her into a hotel and nurses her back to health, and they end up making out. In Chosen at Nightfall, she goes back to ignoring him, making Steve turn to Kylie for advice, which is to fight for her. He starts to get a little bit more stubborn and Della cratered slightly but is back to ignoring him at the end of the novel. However, they do sit together at Burnett and Holiday's wedding. In Reborn, their relationship continues to tear and rebind as Della and Steve get closer. They are tested especially with Chase's persistence towards Della. He ends up kissing his co-worker Jessie and Della goes back to ignoring him. At the end of the novel, they patch things up but get strained again when Della and Chase need to be bonded to save the former and Steve is the only one who can help. He was there when Della woke up. In Eternal, he regretfully decides that he can't stand seeing her and Chase work together and leaves for a pristine shape-shifter school in Paris, France. He later returns and properly ends things between him and Della. See also: Della Tsang and Steve.
Friendships
Lucas Parker: Lucas was Steve's former roommate before he transferred to Paris.
Kylie Galen: In Whispers at Moonrise, he is kind to Kylie and sits with her and Della when she goes to visit Lucas at their cabin. In Chosen at Nightfall, he goes to Kylie for advice about Della's heart. In Reborn, he is concerned enough about Della, Kylie, and Miranda going to the funeral home that he tells Lucas and Perry what was going on during that weekend and goes to help them.
Perry Gomez: Perry and Steve are shown to be good friends.
Other Relationships
Chase Tallman: Steve and Chase don't like each other one bit. Steve always gets jealous when Chase is around Della. But upon realizing his own feelings for the girl were changing, he came to terms with Della's affection toward Chase.
Since Steve makes no appearance in Midnight Hour, and Dr. Whitman no longer has an intern, it is assumed that Steve had already left for med school before graduation.
Despite being a main character, Steve's last name was never revealed.
